Meta PluckebaumMeta Pluckebaum was born in Germany in 1876 and studied art with the German painter, Hermann Emil Pohle.
She was popular in European circles for her work in children's portraits, still life and animals, especially cats and dogs. Pluckebaum was highly successful in the United States for her humorous and sensitive etchings of cats and dogs, usually with hand coloring added. A large amount of her animal portraiture appears amazingly real and vibrant on paper.
She also achieved acclaim as an illustrator of children's books.
